About the Editor

Liam Ferreira edits Bali Air Balloon, the independent guide to balloon rides and aerial experiences on the island. He has lived between Bali and Lombok since 2019, and before that spent six years writing destination coverage and fact-checking travel copy for trade publications — a job that left him with a low tolerance for tour listings that describe things which do not exist.

That is, in fact, how this site started. In 2023 a reader of an earlier project asked Liam which operator ran the “sunrise free-flight balloon over the Tegalalang terraces” she had found on a booking platform. The answer — nobody, because there is no commercial free-flight ballooning in Bali — took three days of phone calls to confirm beyond doubt. The listing photos turned out to be from Cappadocia. The site you are reading grew out of those phone calls.

How this site is researched

Every price published here comes from direct contact with operators or their published rate cards, re-checked at least twice a year and dated in the text — if a figure says June 2026, that is when we last verified it. Where availability is changeable, as with the tethered balloon near Ubud, we say so rather than pretending to certainty. Where Bali simply does not offer something, we say that too, and point to the destinations that do.

Liam does not sell tours, take commissions, or accept payment for placement from any operator mentioned on this site. Reader questions arrive over WhatsApp and email; the recurring ones become FAQ entries, and corrections from readers and operators are applied within days. Operators who believe a detail on this site is wrong are actively encouraged to get in touch — being corrected quickly is the cheapest way to stay accurate.

Editorial scope

Bali Air Balloon covers the tethered balloon experience near Ubud, the festival balloons that appear intermittently around the island, and the aerial alternatives travellers usually weigh against them: helicopter charters, tandem paragliding at Timbis Beach, and the watersports-beach parasailing at Tanjung Benoa. Coverage of free-flight destinations such as Cappadocia and Vang Vieng appears only for comparison, so readers can calibrate expectations before booking anything in Bali.

Questions, corrections, or a price that does not match what an operator quoted you? Send it through the contact page — it all gets read, and most of it gets answered the same day.
