Balloon and aerial pricing in Bali is opaque in a particular way: the numbers are easy to find but hard to compare, because every package bundles different extras and several listings price experiences that do not exist. This guide normalises it. All figures are advertised rates we collected directly from operators and venue rate cards in June 2026, in rupiah where operators quote rupiah and dollars where they quote dollars.
Tethered Balloon: The Three Real Tiers
Standard ascent — IDR 500,000 to 800,000 per person. The core product: briefing, the 10–15 minute ascent over the paddies, a drink afterwards. This is the right tier for most travellers, and the one we point families to.
Breakfast package — IDR 900,000 to 1,200,000. The same ascent followed by a plated breakfast at the estate. Whether it is worth IDR 400,000 over the standard tier depends entirely on how you feel about long resort breakfasts; the view from the table is genuinely good.
Private basket — IDR 1,200,000 to 1,500,000 per person, two-person minimum. Exclusive use of the basket, usually with a photographer option. This is the proposal tier, and it sells out first in high season. Book it for the start of your stay — the booking guide explains why a weather buffer matters more for occasions than for ordinary mornings.
Note what no tier sells: extra altitude or extra time. The line length and slot duration are fixed by the operation, not the package. A listing promising a “longer premium flight” for more money deserves skepticism, and a listing promising free flight over the terraces deserves none of your money at all.
What the Quoted Price Hides
Three quiet variables separate the advertised number from what you pay. Transport: most packages exclude pickup, and a sunrise slot from Seminyak or Canggu means a 5 a.m. driver at IDR 350,000–500,000 round trip — staying in Ubud the night before is often cheaper and certainly kinder. Season: July, August and the year-end weeks push every tier to its ceiling, sometimes with a flat high-season surcharge of 10–20 percent. And payment method: a few operators quote a cash price and add 2–3 percent for cards. None of these are scams; all of them belong in your arithmetic before you compare two quotes.
The Alternatives, Priced Honestly
Helicopter scenic flights. Short coastal hops of 12–15 minutes price from about USD 250–300 per seat, or from roughly IDR 4,000,000 to charter the aircraft. The mid-tier routes — Tanah Lot, Uluwatu and the Bukit cliffs at 20–30 minutes — run USD 400–500, and the long loops past the volcanoes or across to Nusa Penida reach USD 600 and beyond. Per minute of airtime this is Bali’s most expensive option, and per landmark it is the cheapest; nothing else shows you the island’s geography in one sitting.
Tandem paragliding at Timbis Beach. IDR 700,000–1,200,000 buys 15–25 minutes of ridge soaring with an instructor, GoPro footage usually included at the top of that range. Dry-season only (roughly June through September the lift is most dependable). For sustained airborne time per rupiah, nothing in Bali touches it.
Parasailing at Tanjung Benoa. IDR 150,000–350,000 for a few minutes towed above the bay. It is brief and assembly-line, but as the cheapest way to leave the ground in Bali it earns its place — bundle it with the other watersports rather than making a special trip.
Cappadocia, for calibration. A one-hour free flight there runs USD 200–350 — comparable to a Bali helicopter seat, for roughly four times the airtime. If ballooning itself is the dream, that is where the budget belongs.
Sample Budgets
- Family of four, Ubud morning: standard tethered ascents at IDR 600,000 each plus an Ubud-area driver — about IDR 2,800,000 all-in for a morning everyone aged five to seventy-five can do.
- Couple, occasion morning: private basket at IDR 1,500,000 each with photography — IDR 3,000,000–3,500,000, booked for the first morning of the stay.
- Aerial maximalist: tethered sunrise (IDR 700,000), Timbis tandem the next afternoon (IDR 1,000,000), 15-minute heli hop to finish (USD 270) — roughly IDR 6,000,000 total for three different kinds of airborne in one trip.
Paying Less Without Regretting It
Shoulder months are the honest discount: May, June and September deliver dry-season reliability at below-peak rates. Direct booking is the second lever — venue rate cards in our checks consistently undercut reseller listings for the same package, and direct guests get rebooked first after weather cancellations. The false economies are equally consistent: vouchers for “flexible date” balloon flights sold cheap by aggregators (the flexibility is theirs, not yours), and any operator whose price is dramatically below the ranges on this page, which in this niche means the product differs from the description. Cross-check anything odd against the FAQ, or send it to us on WhatsApp — pricing anomalies are half our inbox.
